Yesterday marked the end of the 89th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature – and not a moment too soon. The past 140 days have been filled with their regular intrigue, challenges and “interesting” ideas from lawmakers in Austin.

All in all, IBAT was able to fend off or lessen the impact of the most challenging proposals put forth by the legislature, which posed significant impact to community banks and their customers.

Simultaneously, IBAT worked to put more resources into the hands of law enforcement and prosecutors to address fraudulent activity that so often affects Texas community banks.

With the closing of the regular session, Governor Abbott has until June 22 to veto bills passed by the Texas Legislature. During that time, IBAT will be working to review all bills sent to the Governor’s desk and composing its customary white paper to ensure you’re “in the know” regarding any pending changes to state law that will affect you or your customers.

Thank you, once again, to the hundreds of Texas community bankers who stepped up in advocacy to make their voices heard throughout the Session. As always, if you have any questions about the Session, please contact IBAT’s Director of Government Relations Wendy Foster.
