Last week, IBAT’s President and CEO Christopher Williston joined Texas Bank and Trust (TB&T) Chairman & CEO Rogers Pope, Jr., at a Longview-area Waffle House, where the two faced the unenviable task of spending up to 24 hours in the restaurant. It was all in good fun, a “punishment” in honor of TB&T employees raising more than $25,000 to support the IBAT PAC during the bank’s annual PAC drive.
Luckily, Williston and Pope were given a couple of ways to chip away at the clock. Each waffle eaten knocked off an hour, while additional donations to the IBAT PAC earned them even more time off their sentence.
And IBAT members and TB&T employees came through. Another $2,000 was raised for the PAC that morning, while friends stopped by throughout the challenge to show their support and sign Pope’s now-famous waffle hat.
In the end, it took just eight waffles, thousands of dollars in additional PAC support and a little less than five hours for the “Waffle House Boys” to earn their freedom.
“I am beyond thankful for the support of IBAT members and TB&T employees,” Williston said. “While I COULD have eaten more waffles, after the fourth I started to bargain with the idea of just doing the time.”
