As we await President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration later this month, the 119th Congress began last week with the swearing in of members and election of a Speaker of the House on January 3.
To mark the occasion and connect with key legislative offices, IBAT President and CEO Christopher Williston and Director of Federal and Regulatory Initiatives Bill Briggs were on hand in D.C., meeting with members and staff to discuss IBAT’s priorities for regulatory relief.
“We have sown seeds for the roll back of Dodd-Frank regulations over the last several Congresses,” Williston said. “We think now is the time to reap the rewards of that work.”
“Congress has a lot on its plate with the priorities of the Trump administration,” Briggs said. “But there is a real understanding that community banks have been crushed by overregulation. It’s essential that community bankers come and tell their stories in Washington, D.C.” IBAT members are encouraged to participate in the 31st Annual Congressional Visit in Washington, D.C., February 25-27. Don’t forget, as well, to join us in Austin for Community Banking Day at the Capitol, February 5-6.
