Global IT systems are still recovering after a CrowdStrike update caused a massive worldwide outage of Windows computers last Friday. The incident affected some community banks, with some reporting downed systems. The Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council and the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center reported that the incident did not significantly affect the financial sector’s ability to provide services to customers. Microsoft has since completed mitigation actions on previously affected Microsoft 365 apps and services have recovered.
In the wake of Friday’s incident at the CrowdStrike cybersecurity firm, ICBA released a customizable template that community bankers can use for outbound messages to customers. The custom template is designed to help affected community banks communicate any outages, reassure customers that their accounts remain secure and encourage consumers to remain vigilant against phishing attempts following the incident.
