Moments ago, Texas State Banking Commissioner Randall James announced his retirement effective the end of August, 2008.  IBAT has enjoyed a wonderful working relationship with Randall and everyone in the department since his arrival as Deputy Commissioner in 1991.  His leadership and experience as chief state banking regulator will be sorely missed.
The entire IBAT Board, Leadership and staff wish him the very best as he pursues new opportunities.  A copy of the Department of Banking release appears HERE.

ON THE HILL

Pending Interchange Legislation
Retail merchants and consumer groups are driving legislation aimed at setting interchange fees charged by banks on debit and credit card transactions. H.R. 5546 and S. 3086 are the vehicles. The ICBA has put together an impressive package of background materials to assist you in contacting your Congressman and Senators. A quick letter, e-mail or phone call to your elected representatives would assist in derailing this damaging legislative proposal.
